Annual SoNo Arts Celebration

Free-to-the-public, the annual SoNo Arts Celebration supports original art, music and community spirit. Works from over 130 juried fine artists and craftspersons are showcased while live performers entertain throughout the weekend on three stages with a diverse mix of music, theater and dance. The Arts Celebration is host to over 50,000 attendees from New England and the NY Metro area and is held in the historic, waterfront district of South Norwalk (SoNo), CT.

Saturday, August 6, 2011: 10 am – 11 pm. Two full days of Exhibiting Arts & Entertainment

The Nantucket Antiques Show

Generally held in early August, as a benefit for the Nantucket Historical Association, the show is a centerpiece for a week of social events, lectures, and activities. The show is one of the most highly regarded antiques shows on the east coast, attracting collectors and enthusiasts to the forty-four distinguished exhibitors who present American and European art and antique furniture, accessories, nautical items, garden and architectural ornament, and folk art.

Bird Watching — Tours and Cruises

The Norwalk Seaport Association offers bird-watching tours and cruises for all levels of bird watchers from June 4th through August 10th. Set to depart from the Seaport Dock adjacent to the Stroffolino Bridge at the corner of Washington and Water streets in South Norwalk, the 42-foot C. J. Toth Quest catamaran will take participants on a three-hour cruise. Click here for additional information and to make reservations. Bird watching educational tours aboard The Sheffield Island Lighthouse Ferry take place on June 4 from 2 to 5 pm. Summer in Fairfield County — A Juried Exhibition

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in cooperation with Fairfield County Arts Association will present Summer in Fairfield County, a juried exhibition judged by award-winning artist Laurel Stern Boeck. The exhibition will be held at the Mansion through Aug. 18, 2011. For those who have already viewed the Mansion and are solely interested in the art exhibit, viewing hours are 12 to 4 p.m. Wed.-Sun. Admission is free. During the season, full tours at the mansion are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for children and young adults ages 8-18. Children under 8 are admitted free. Tour hours are 12- 4 p.m., Wed.-Sun. Tours are on the hour, and the last tour is at 3 pm.

Oyster Festival & Classic Car Show

The Annual Oyster Festival will be held rain or shine on Saturday, August 20th from 10 am to 6 pm with a Pre-Festival Event on Friday, August, 19th from 6 pm to 9:30 pm. The festival has grown from a tiny local one-day celebration of the oyster in a wonderful seaside community, into one of Connecticut’s summer highlights. Festival visitors have a choice of activities including entertainment for children and music fans, harbor canoe and kayak races, over 200 arts and crafts vendors from around the country, a classic car show and tremendous food offered by local non-profit civic organizations. The festival provides the venue for many non-profit organizations to raise money for each of their causes.

American Folk Art Museum: Current Exhibitions

Among the many exhibitions at the American Folk Art Museum in N.Y., is the second installment of the “Perspectives” series organized by the museum’s education department. This exhibit examines some of the many facets of figure in works from the permanent collection. From 19th-century miniatures to a larger-than-life 20th-century circus banner, the figures presented in the artworks on view serve as a sampling of the vast diversity of depictions of people in folk art.
